Vacation vs. Trip
So we just returned from our "vacation" on Saturday. For the most part we had a wonderful time. Of course there's always the juggling of items that we don't usually have with us that makes for a more exciting trip. But I've decided that there is a distinct difference between a vacation and a family trip. I guess I didn't really understand the difference until this trip. Of course we've taken trips before, but none so long or on planes to far off places.
So I'm laying in bed, in Kansas, in heat that is like none I've felt outside of the saunas I took as a child and I'm thinking to myself, "self, trips are vacations taken with the family and vacations are taken either by yourself or with your spouse without the kids." Don't get me wrong, we had a great time, but I'm worn out. I read a funny in Faith and Family magazine while we were traveling that said, "Family trips are a time when mom gets do all the things she'd usually do only in unfamiliar settings and less conveniently." I thought, "Bingo! Give that person a prize."
Of course that wasn't helped by the discovery of the flea infestation we had when we arrived home on Saturday night. Yep, you read that right. A big thank you to my mother-in-law who allowed us to stay with her on no notice. So we bombed the house and I've been cleaning ever since. We weren't exactly in our right minds on Saturday night when this all occurred. Not to mention we had no newspaper in the house to cover dishes and other things we had laying about that we would have like to have used sooner rather than later.
So probably needless to say, our house is cleaner than maybe it's ever been before. I've vacuumed every day since and mopped a couple of times. It's been loads of fun, oh yeah I forgot to mention the loads of laundry my loving husband has been doing since the bombing incident. We have mount Killamanpatrick here... when it comes to all the linens, clothes, and stuffed animals that we had sitting in our courtyard, because we couldn't have begun to fit them all in the house, you'd be surprised to see that there are only a few piles of stuffed animals yet. Yes, we decided the animals could wait.
I'm guessing this isn't how most people would want to spend their first few days home from a trip but oh well, that's life. We just laugh now, what else is there to do? Oh yeah, well I already threw the screaming and crying fit... so now we just laugh!
